Six Sigma DMAIC Is Designed To Improve the Way a Company Operates

The Six Sigma DMAIC method makes perfect sense. It is designed to assess a company’s order of operations, figure out how specific situations are handled within company practices, and target where there is a need for improvement. It incorporates the idea of implementing a structured plan, not only to assess the issue, but to resolve and improve it as well.

When a business is experiencing a lull in their productivity or product turnaround, it is vital to track the source of the problem so the problem can be quickly resolved. The bottom line in any business relies heavily on productivity. This methodology, once implemented correctly, is a wonderful tool to accomplish the goal of productivity improvements. Every department within a business is supposed to run efficiently and accomplish goals on time. Directives must be given to each department from management about the strategies they must put in place to get the job done. Most departments have protocols they must follow or plans that are set for them.  Incorporating a proven method to increase efficiency has the ability to quickly generate positive results for companies who are possibly struggling with ways to improve.

There are five phases to the Six Sigma DMAIC concept; define, measure, analyze, improve and control. It is designed to be implemented when productivity or product turnaround is inefficient and the company wants to troubleshoot the issue and fix it to increase its bottom line.  In other words, the DMAIC method is used when there is a problem within existing products or processes.  Conversely, the DMADV method is used when a company wants to introduce a new product or process.

Most company’s bottom lines are increased due to increased customer satisfaction or increased product movability. When customer service call centers experience high call volumes with decreased customer satisfaction, they understand that there is a problem and something has to be done to fix it. In order to get that process started, they would implement a program like the Six Sigma DMAIC methodology.

By implementing this program they will go through the systematic process of defining, measuring, analyzing, improving, and controlling the specific issue. If done correctly, they would isolate what the core problem is, figure the solution to minimize it, resolve it, or eliminate it altogether depending on their findings.  When the reason for the problem is discovered, it is important to figure out how to fix the issue and decide what tools will be necessary.

Businesses and companies have an opportunity to troubleshoot the issues and problems within their organization and find the right solutions to correct them. It is important for every company, if they want to stay in business, to find solutions to problems that affect their ability to efficiently generate revenue and make customers happy.

The Six Sigma DMAIC methodology allows the opportunity to discover what is going wrong with the way certain processes are handled and offers solutions and tools to resolve the core issues so things can run smoothly and more efficiently. Using this method will improve customer satisfaction and move products faster in any company that incorporates its ideas properly. Implementing this method would be one of the best improvements any company could make to help business growth and stay competitive within their market.
