Delivering Successful Projects with TSP(SM) and Six Sigma: A Practical Guide to Implementing Team Software Process(SM)

Delivering successful projects means the ability to produce high quality software within budget and on time—consistently, but when one mentions quality to software engineers or project managers, they talk about how impossible it is to eliminate defects from software. This assumption is passed on and on until it becomes accepted wisdom, with the power of a self-fulfilling prophecy. And when a project fails to arrive on time or up to standards, team members will turn on each other. The project got delayed because the engineers did a poor job in development or too much was promised upfront for this short of a timeline. In Delivering Successful Projects with TSPSM and Six Sigma: A Practical Guide to Implementing Team Software ProcessSM, you will learn how to effectively manage the development of a software project and deliver it in line with customer expectations. This refreshing volume — Offers real-world case studies about the author’s experience at Microsoft successfully i

For me what differentiates this book from other books on TSP and Six Sigma are the lucid language and focus on real world projects. The book acquaints the reader with important TSP and Six Sigma terminologies without using unrequired jargon. The book also present the TSP framework in a practical meeting based approach. The fact that the author is a Microsoft veteran and has personally applied and fine-tuned the framework in real-world projects makes the book a must-have for Project Managers and software professionals who work in a collaorative environment.

This review is from: Delivering Successful Projects with TSP(SM) and Six Sigma: A Practical Guide to Implementing Team Software Process(SM) (Hardcover)

This book demonstrates in a very practical and pragmatic way exactly how to integrate concepts from proven techniques like mistake-proofing, six sigma, and team software process (TSP) into the real-world of software development projects.
Mukesh Jain includes examples of strategies for troubleshooting and overcoming obstacles, collecting and analyzing data, setting suitable goals and refining process improvements. You’ll find a lot of helpful advice for dealing with resistance to change.
The tone strikes a suitable balance between academic information, philosophical approach, practical techniques, and coaching.
I found it to be a very valuable addition to my software quality library.

One of the best books that I have read about Six Sigma and TSP. The author explains the basic priciples and directly gets into real world examples. The book has a right mix of technical depth and practical examples. The languages is crisp and clear. The author has a good knowledge of challenges faces in real world during SDLC.I would highly recommend the book to anybody involved in SDLC.
