All business people strive to create the best products and services they can. When quality is lacking in their company and processes must be changed in order to continue, they will often call in a Six Sigma Professional to help.
Six Sigma professionals use certain statistical methods in order to increase the productivity and the customer satisfaction rates by removing any current procedure or process that is inefficient. All procedures the company uses must benefit the quality of the product or service and the bottom line at all times. Business owners want to ensure this by setting in motion certain projects that will ensure the improvement of their quality. The professionals will use certain steps to reach the results the company executives are seeking.
Many of the processes are changed to improve customer and employee satisfaction. The customer’s opinion of the company will determine whether or not they will return for future purchases. If the employees are unsatisfied with the job they are doing, are confused or do not trust the company they are working for, their job satisfaction rate will be extremely low. This often leads to frequent absences and tardies, shoddy work and less than even standard quality products or services.
Some companies will have a knowledgeable Six Sigma professional on staff. This is very convenient if quality satisfaction rates begin to decrease. A Six Sigma professional can have any of three main rankings where experience and knowledge are concerned. They can work at the Black Belt level, which is the most knowledgeable, the Green Belt level, which is just below Black, and the Yellow Belt level, which consists of the least experienced individuals, who are usually support staff within the company.

Black Belt professionals will develop a plan after discussing the current quality issues with the company executives. This plan will include Six Sigma methods that are typically used to analyze the processes and practices of the company. They will utilize the knowledge of a Green Belt to help them as an assistant and the Yellow Belt professionals to do the ground work. The business the processes are then analyzed through one of two common 6 Sigma models; the DMAIC or the DMADV model. The DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) model is used when improvement is required on an existing process. The DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Define, Verify) model is used when the company is introducing a new product or service.
The Six Sigma Team will analyze the processes, identify the areas that require improvement and change and discuss these changes among themselves. The goal during the discussions is to search for possible solutions after identifying changes that need to be made using the 6 Sigma Methodologies. They will also determine to which business processes the changes need to be applied. Once they have solutions to suggest, they will consult with business executives for a final implementation.
