I can help with R3 and R4.. According to the book The Management and Control of Quality by Evans and Lindsey the term total quality management was developed by the Naval Air Systems Command to describe its Japanese-style approach to quality improvement and became popular with businesses in the US during the 1980’s. The term TQM has fallen out of favor, and many people simply use TQ. The principles of Total Quality is based on three fundamental principles; focus on customers and stakeholders, participation and teamwork by everyone in the organization and a process focus supported by continuous improvement and learning.
R4. Cycle time refers to the time it takes to accomplish one cyle of a process (like the time from when a customer orders a product to the time it is delivered). Reductions in cycle time has 2 purposes. One they speed up work processes so that customer response is improved and second because reduction in cycle time can only be done by improving processes that can in turnimprove an organizations quality, costs and productivity.
