Six Sigma professionals use specific methods to inspect quality improvement for companies around the world. There are several procedures that are commonly used and processes within those procedures that trained and certified 6 sigma individuals use to get results.
The Six Sigma Methodology is deeply rooted in statistical theory. Professionals tried and certified in this business management theory will collect and analyze data from the company in need of improvement. This data will show the professionals (and subsequently, the business owners) a picture of their current practices and how they run their business from day to day. Six Sigma professionals will analyze this data, searching for areas that are creating quality problems. This could have to do with the productivity of the employees or equipment, the happiness and satisfaction of the employees or the age of the technology used. When the Six Sigma professional discovers the problem areas, they work out possible solutions on the road to success.
The next step is to compare each possible solution against the outcome goals to see if the solution will benefit the company, harm it, or have no effect. Beneficial changes are then identified. Six Sigma professionals bring these solutions to the company executives to discuss. When a quality improvement plan is being developed, the company executives must take into account the employees that will be affected by the plan. They must give the employees time to adjust to any changes that are made. If they are introduced to new technology that is suggested, they must be trained to use that new technology efficiently and effectively.
One of the issues that everyone involved must keep in mind while running a project is the financial aspect to the process. Companies must have the finances to cover any changes that might need to be made. If new technology is necessary to make the company procedures and processes faster, easier and safer for the company, there must be the right time, money and training involved to make it a success. Employees using the new technology need to be trained thoroughly. If there is not enough money for the employees to be trained properly, they may not be able to use it effectively or correctly.
6 Sigma professionals introduce quality enhancing solutions to the company processes at the request of the company executives. They may use a process that allows them to continue monitoring the progress of the planned solution. They might otherwise use a process that gives the company executives the authority to monitor and control the implementation of the plan with the Black Belt acting as a consultant. Six Sigma professionals and company executives work in conjunction from the beginning to the end of the project toward a common goal of heightened quality within all products or services produced by a certain corporation.
