Should be on the desk of every technical manager!, March 30, 1999

I picked this up while browsing one afternoon and began to read. I couldn’t put it down! Despite the price, I recommend it for any technical manager. It tends to be very overview-ish, but any book that deals with such a broad range of subjects as those that fall into the purview of a project engineer, will have to be this way. I particularly like the way that key words are in bold throughout the text so you can easily refer to it and zero in on the things you are looking for.

This book is a good general reference for engineering and process equipment project management. In fact, you could probably re-title it as “… Project Manager’s Desk Reference”. Much of the book refers to methods and procedures used at ICF Kaiser. It covers in detail design engineering controls / monitoring, material and equipment procurement, contract procedures, cost control and estimating. A section is also devoted to the matters associated with international projects. It is a very good reference for those involved in management of large projects (engineering, construction, design-build).
