A great book for any sustainability professional,
I work in the sustainability field and have been aware of Jones Lang LaSalle’s sustainability services credentials by reputation and third party anecdotes. After Six Sigma for Sustainability, it is clear that the reputation is well deserved.
Even corporations with the best sustainability and corporate social responsibility intentions and strategy struggle in how to make it a relevant business issue (i.e. “Why should the business care?). Six Sigma for Sustainability provides the reader with familiar business and analytic tools for creating a sustainability strategy, select the right sustainability projects and initiatives and setting up the appropriate governance structure.
This book is a great read and resource for anyone that plays a key role in your corporation’s sustainability effort whether you are just getting started or are more mature.

Sustainability Meets A Business Model,
This book is filled with practical tools, templates, approaches and methods that will help any Six Sigma improvement team accelerate their learning and their results. With its unique focus on the opportunities to further global sustainability through the more efficient use of buildings and work spaces, the book is a blueprint for any company looking to both recapture resources and increase their contribution to the cause.
First and foremost, this is a book about business, about the concept of doing more and doing better with less, of better serving customers and of building a brand that everyone in the world can admire and respect. The business goals are put front and center and are ultimately the driving wheel behind any sustainability effort.
The authors have left nothing out, and clearly intended this book to be used as a guide for others in making a larger contribution to the broader goals of sustainability. The chapter on Stakeholder Engagement is worth the price of the book all by itself, not only as it relates to efficient building management but also as it relates to sustaining any significant change effort in any organization. Combined with the detailed review of Business Case development, these two chapters form the foundation for any successful change initiative.
The authors also provide an insightful overview of the role of collaborative management in any significant change, and provide case studies and examples to magnify the keys to making this happen. A memorable set of core principles are woven throughout the text, so instead of a laundry list of things that must be done, the reader is given a memorable recipe of the things that matter most.
A critical point that the authors make sums up their purpose and intent – the greenest building you can attain is the one you don’t build. This highlights the need for improved strategies and methods for improving existing facilities, which are all delivered page by page.

The Perfect Education For People Like Me,
I am in the commercial real estate industry, I represent companies, helping them find office space in San Francisco. I am LEED Accredited, but the truth is that my education to this point into corporate sustainability practices has been cursory. I am completely capable of advising on these issues, but a deep-dive into the nuances and intricacies of the processes that take place, and need to take place, has been a missing element of my education.
Full disclosure that I work for the same company as the people who wrote the book do, but that is a conscious decision. The authors are the brightest people I know on these subjects, and the knowledge I have been able to acquire from them makes me better at my job. I use this book as a resource constantly, I need this book close to me so that I can best add value to my client’s real estate transactions.
Simply put: My value to clients, and my work related revenue, have increased directly because of this book. It is an easy correlation for me to make.
