I am currently a junior at a private, 1st tier school pursuing a BA in economics (specializing in business management and law). I am looking into this online program from University of Central Missouri in MS in Industrial Management. I want to know how much technical knowledge this will require before getting into this program. Apparently this program doesn’t have set requirements other than a 2.60 GPA or higher for admittance. I have a 3.3 GPA. It states that this major is welcome to engineering, technological, or management undergrads who want a masters. It has no set mathematical requirements or science requirements other than than some technology requirements.

The Master of Science in Industrial Management
degree program is designed for students who desire work
in management or supervisory positions in industry.
Participants in the Master’s degree program develop skills
useful to business and industry. The program provides a
balanced curriculum focusing on the human element of the
workplace as well as a variety of industrial systems. Specii c
skills will be developed in the i elds of leadership, problem
solving, and decisionmaking.
To be accepted into this program, a student must
have a minimum GPA of 2.60 in the undergraduate major.
A student not meeting this requirement may petition the
Department for admittance on a conditional basis. GRE
or GMAT scores are not required. The curriculum utilizes
web-based learning with the option to enroll in on-campus
courses to round out a blended learning approach. Courses
are scheduled with the capability of completing the degree
program entirely online in two calendar years. This program
also facilitates articulation to a Ph.D. in Technology
Management.
The program’s strength is the af ordable curriculum
presented by highly qualii ed faculty with expertise in the
area of industrial management. The curriculum emphasizes
student achievement while providing the l exibility necessary
for students with busy schedules. The comprehensive
curriculum focuses on technology management and
organizational ef ectiveness with a research and scholarly
work component designed to meet the needs of the
individual student. Library resources are unequaled in
similar size universities, with a strong emphasis on remote
database access. This makes distance learning and associated
research easier to achieve.
Does anyone know the job titles upon completing this masters degree as well? Would it be helpful for supply chain management?
It’s a legitimate degree, and the undergrad GPA requirements are surprisingly low. Perhaps that’s a reflection of the the school’s mediocre reputation. Similar programs are called MSTM—Technology Management and non-competitive schools effectively require a minimum GPA of 2.75~3.0 (lower if the GRE score is above average).
This is an excellent degree for people who want to manage in an industrial setting — better than an MBA. However, for Supply Chain Management, you may better want to get a Supply Chain Management degree, and pursue appropriate Industry Certifications.
