Great guide,
Author Larry Fast’s book is a great and inclusive way to audit operations, pick good goals and execute. For further help, this book includes a CD, but by just working with the text, manufacturing and supply management leaders will find a way to make sense out of wide-ranging signals from mixed product operations. If you are working in a company that has many plants, differing cultures, different products and differing cycles, the temptation to pick the wrong improvement methods is there. It’s all about focus, and Fast’s approach to instilling clear focus in the organization, supported by good numbers, is a great place to start. Pay particular attention to Appendix D, page 225, Formulas for Selected Metrics – these are the basic performance measurement and trouble-shooting metrics you will want understood, in the same language, through your plants and even your suppliers. As Dorian Shainin taught us, “Let the data lead you!”
