I am fairly new to the safety field and thought our current metrics on how we measure the effectiveness of our safety efforts were not as effective as they could be. I purchased this book to learn how to develop more detailed, specific safety measures – and was not disappointed. Creating safety metrics can be tricky – if you work in a multi-departent organization there are many things other than your specific efforts (such as department leadership, department-specific training, individual audits the department conducts, the department’s safety culture, etc.) that can affect the number of injuries and accidents within the organization.

There is a lot of information in this book to help pinpoint various safety measures and how they are affected. I am not very statistical so some parts of the book were a little over my head, but overall the book has been very useful as a reference (which I keep on my desk within arms reach at all times).
