Gaining Knowledge about Six Sigma Methods

Many companies will struggle to a point where they are ready to close down before they will ask for assistance.  Organizations ask Six Sigma professionals to use their proven methods to improve the quality of their company on a regular basis.

Once a business or corporation invites Six Sigma professionals in to their company, however, they can rest assured that the job will be done and they should see some desired improvement in the quality of their output; whether it be a product or service.

Six Sigma professionals use two models to find and implement resolutions for the hiring company.  These are the DMAIC and the DMADV methods.  These trained and certified professionals know which one is appropriate to which situation.  The first of the two, the DMAIC, is an acronym for define, measure, analyze, improve and control.  This is a very common method, as it has all the elements needed to search for, identify, and find resolutions for the problems existing within the company that threaten its longevity. This process is used when an existing product or service needs quality control.

DMADV stands for define, measure, analyze, design and verify.  Six Sigma professionals use this second method when the organization in question needs help in creating a new product or service.  It provides a plan of action that they can utilize within the company itself, satisfying employees, executives and shareholders in the long run.

Before a project is created, the Black Belt or Champion who is in charge of the entire Six Sigma team will have met with company executives to see where their main concerns lie.  The leader who is placed in charge of the project will assign Green and Yellow Belt positions, giving each individual member of the team specific tasks to perform.  Usually, a Black Belt professional has been in charge of many projects in the past and knows who he or she might need to call in to get the job done right.  They will have professional Green Belt and Yellow Belt individuals ready to take on less intense tasks whenever they are called.

Organizations are beginning to see the tremendous merits to using these methods in order to root out and resolve the issues that are plaguing their company.  They may be having high turnover rates, low job satisfaction, frequent call-ins, low productivity and a generally unhappy atmosphere within the workplace. All of these things are taken into account by Six Sigma team members when they are analyzing where the quality improvement should be focused. Companies are improving on every level they find they need help with. One of the best things this special type of trained and certified professionals offer to the company is their continued help in monitoring the success of the project.  They will help executives know what to look for and give them information on how to keep their quality high and their employees happy.
